#BookReview ~ The 5th Wave Trilogy by Rick Yancey

The 5th Wave trilogy by Rick Yancey included my second favourite book of 2017 (The Last Star, The 5th Wave #3) and the series was one of the best I finished reading in 2017. Therefore, I thought I'd post a quick review on the series.

First up, the cover of Book 1, and its blurb:

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains.

After the 2nd, only the lucky escape.

And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive.

After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie's only hope for rescuing her brother-or even saving herself.

But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

My Short and Snappy Review

Before I picked up this series from my local library, I'd heard that readers were divided when it came to this teen/YA dystopian series. That it was a love it or hate it type trilogy. But reading it, albeit with low expectations based on this hearsay, I really couldn't see why it was labelled as such.

I'm in the group that loves it. I enjoyed the first book (I gave The 5th Wave 3-stars), despite dystopia/alien invasion stories not being a favourite of mine, and the series got better and better. I gave 4-stars to Book 2, The Infinite Sea and 5-stars to the finale, The Last Star).

The writing was great and there were plenty of twists-and-turns, as well as some really sweet romantic moments. If you like teen dystopia, give this a go; it might just surprise you.

Thank you very much for reading this post. My books are available on:
Apple BooksB&NKoboSmashwords, and Amazon.

My new book, Heir to the Throne (the first book in a new epic royalty fantasy trilogy), is out now, as is the sequel. More details here.
